Smooth Kale (35 days) Also called plain Kale, Spring Sprouts, and Hanover Salad. It can be sown in the spring or fall as it stands extreme cold. A quick growing smooth leaved variety, very sweet and tender and should be used when the plants are quite young.

A cool season crop that may be grown throughout the yea on most types of soil with pH of 5.5 to 6.5. Fertilize with a quality garden fertilizer. Make first planting 3-4 weeks before last frost in spring and make periodic plantings, every 3-4 weeks, until a month before first frost in fall. Drill seeds 1⁄2 inch deep and 1⁄2 inch apart in rows 2-3 feet apart. Sidedress twice, about 3 weeks and 5 weeks after seed comes up, with Nitrate of Soda. One ounce of seed will plant 200 feet of row; two lbs. seed per acre.
